Strengthening Cumbrian Expertise

Carigiet Cowen Chartered Surveyors and Commercial Property Specialists have successfully navigated the highs and lows of the property market for over 35 years, adapting to shifting regulations and evolving occupier demands while maintaining its commitment to delivering an expert, efficient and personal service.

Based in Carlisle, the firm operates across Cumbria, the North East, North Lancashire and Southwest Scotland.

As part of its continued investment in its core professional services and commitment to developing in-house talent, Carigiet Cowen has announced the promotion of Mike Beales to director.

Mike joined the firm in 2017 and qualified as a chartered surveyor and RICS registered valuer in 2019. In his new role, he will lead on valuation work for a wide range of public and private sector clients.

Specialising in complex asset valuations to support public sector financial reporting Mike also provides valuation advice for secured lending, tax planning, pension funds, charities and operational decision-making.

Alongside his valuation work, Mike works closely with co-director Iain Henderson to manage client property portfolios, ensuring assets are managed effectively with a focus on landlord-tenant relationships and long-term asset performance. He also remains active in the office, industrial and development agency sectors, advising clients on acquisitions, disposals and lettings.

Richard Percival, director at Carigiet Cowen, said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Mike to the Board. His professionalism, technical expertise and strong relationships with clients have made him an invaluable part of the team. His promotion is a natural step and reflects both his contribution to the firm and the continued growth of Carigiet Cowen.

The firm has also strengthened its team with the addition of Amelia Harrison, who joined in January 2024. Having completed her Masters in Real Estate Surveying with distinction at Northumbria University in October 2025, she is now working towards qualifying with the RICS.

Further supporting their plans for growth, Francesca Marconi joined the firm in September 2025 for a one-year placement from Northumbria University, where she is studying for a BSc (Hons) in Real Estate.

Commenting on his promotion, Mike said: ’I’m thrilled to join the Board and immensely grateful to the whole team for their support over the years. ‘We’re a close-knit firm that takes pride in delivering a high-quality service for all of our clients. ‘I look forward to building on that success and continuing to support the development of in-house talent as our junior team progress and make their way through the profession.’

The developments come as the firm also unveils a refreshed brand identity and new website, alongside new systems designed to improve how the team manages client relationships and property information. The changes reflect the firm’s continued evolution while maintaining the high standard of professional service that has underpinned the business for more than three decades.
